Swift Response of MMPRC Emergency Response Team and LGU's to the Flooded Victims
Bayugan 3, Rosario, Agusan del Sur - The Emergency Response Team of the MMPRC (Mindanao Mineral Processing and Refining Corporation) provided assistance in rescue and evacuation operations led by the Bayugan 3 Local Government Unit. The team, which included the Search and Swiftwater Rescue Unit, promptly responded to the LGU's request to evacuate families residing in low-lying areas of the nearby barangay due to flooding caused by continuous heavy rainfall.
Hon. Michael Rhay Hambala expressed his gratitude for the additional rescue team, as the barangay's search and rescue team was understaffed during the emergency.
As of 4 PM on February 1, 2024, the regions of Mindanao, Central Visayas, Negros Occidental, and Southern Visayas are experiencing cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunder storms. This weather condition is attributed to the trough of a Low Pressure Area (LPA), which resulted in flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy, and at times intense, rainfall. According to the DSWD DROMIC Report #3 on the Effects of the Trough of Low Pressure Area (LPA) as of 6 PM on February 1, 2024, approximately 5,169 families have been affected within the Municipality of Rosario.
During a similar calamity last year, the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) also sought the assistance of the Emergency Response Team in rescue and evacuation operations.
