PMC/MMPRC Holds Public Scoping for the Planned Expansion

 

 

BUNAWAN, AGUSAN DEL SUR- Philsaga Mining Corporation (PMC) and Mindanao Mineral Processing & Refining Corporation (MMPRC) conducted a Public Scoping for the proposed amendment of the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) for the Co-O Gold Expansion Project on February 6, 2025, at Consuelo Gymnasium, Barangay Consuelo, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.

Led by PMC/MMPRC Vice President Engr. A. Cortes and Resident Manager Engr. Alvin B. Castaños, key stakeholders – including representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Office, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), Indigenous Peoples groups, local government units (municipal and barangay), the Provincial Government Office, and various non-government organizations – were invited to have a meaningful discussion on the relevant views on the environmental, social and economic impact of the planned expansion. The issues and concerns raised during the Public Scoping will be carefully considered in decision-making, ensuring that mitigation measures, development benefits, and opportunities for affected communities are effectively addressed.

TLCR Manager, For. Gladess Dianne S. Buot presented the company’s future development plans, emphasizing the expansion of mining operations and the additional installation of the Tailing Storage Facility (TSF) 6. She also highlighted the company’s environmental mitigation strategies, sustainable resource management, and rehabilitation efforts. Furthermore, she discussed the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to improve community welfare through infrastructure, education, and livelihood programs.

Engr. Reden Mejorada from EMB explained the significance of the Public Scoping as part of the ECC Amendment process and facilitated an open forum where stakeholders raised concerns, asked questions, and discussed environmental safeguards, socio-economic benefits, and mitigating measures for affected communities. This activity was conducted as part of the company’s commitment to transparency and information dissemination, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged in the responsible growth of the mining operations.
