PMC SEG implements physical fitness program for security personnel wellness
ROSARIO, Agusan del Sur – To promote good health and physical wellness of its personnel, the Security and Enforcement Group (SEG) of Philsaga Mining Corporation (PMC) started its physical fitness program last July 2023 inside PMC premises. The program has three (3) phases: the conditioning phase, combative phase, and evaluation/testing phase.
According to SEG Manager Maurito Licudine, a security practitioner must be physically fit, because they must be always alert and able to react to situations, and endure long periods of duty.
The conditioning phase involves an “Honesty Run” where agency security guards (SG) and company guards (CG) are required to run or walk at their own pace and convenient time to complete a monthly target of 25 kilometers. The combative phase features the training of personnel in basic self-defense skills. They would be taught from the basic forms into more advanced and difficult moves in martial arts, including defensive and disarming techniques. The last phase is a periodic physical fitness test where they must each successfully complete 2 minutes of pushups, 2 minutes sit-ups, and a 3 kilometer run.
Noven Osword Dumalag, Shift Supervisor (SS) of SEG, shared that this fitness program made him more confident and dedicated. “I am grateful that I have been part of this training, it improved my physical fitness, and it boosted my confidence in performing my duties”, he said.
Licudine further emphasized that a healthy work-life balance is the key to achieving success in any endeavor and involving oneself to such kind of activities while employed requires time management, commitment, and self-determination.
“Physical fitness program is an investment to give value to the SG’s and CG’s health for them to be more effective and productive in providing quality service to the company,” said Licudine.
